Aim

Are you interested in working as a healthcare professional? Our Physiotherapy Assistant programme is designed to help you become a healthcare assistant and work with physiotherapists to assess and treat people with movement restrictions caused by injury, illness or age. Learn techniques to help with injuries and disorders of muscles and joints and make a difference in people’s lives.

Our programme aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to work as a Physiotherapy Assistant. You will learn how to work with a Physiotherapist to assess and treat people whose movement is restricted by injury, illness or age.

Entry Requirements

An interest in working as a Healthcare Professional. Work experience in the area would be an advantage.

Modules offered may be subject to change due to resource demands.

Additional Training

Occupational First Aid and Patient Moving & Lifting is also offered.

Work Experience

The programme includes supervised clinical experience in nursing homes, hospitals, and other health facilities. This will take the form of one day per week for the academic year.

Students will be required to undertake Garda Vetting prior to work placement commencement.

Career Opportunities

The Healthcare Service Skills award is the Department of Health’s recommended qualification for all Healthcare Assistants working in the public and private sector. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy assistants can work in any healthcare setting under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists.

Progression

Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies in the FET sector at level 6 or to IT Colleges/Universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme as outlined in this brochure.
