A Very interesting Visit From the Generalital Valenciana
The Spanish Educational Council from the Region of Valencia delighted us with a warm and friendly visit last Friday 10th of November 2006.
While the purpose of the visit was still to be unfolded we invited a total of fourteen teachers and college principals of the Further Educational Sector in Spain, represented by Mr. José María Maté Antolín as well as private company employers. They attended a presentation by the Principal of the college, Mrs. Bridget Blake and Deputy Principal Mrs. Ursula Mooney also assisted by CISCO Tutor Michael Foley and Spanish Tutor of horticulture Monica Alvarez.
Our visitors were interested in learning how the educational system in Ireland works and what are the many options being offered in all levels of learning to students in Ireland.
While the educational system in Spain is still changing it was becoming obvious that there were major differences between their style of training and ours. Students in the Further Education Sector are required to complete a much longer period of work experience than Irish Students. On the other hand our visitors were impressed by the degree of governmental help available to colleges and schools, especially the facility offered to Students to subsidise the cost of the course they choose and the freedom provided concerning availability of licences to teach specific courses.
It also was interesting for them to learn about the “Progression System of Education” in Ireland with levels 1-10. This, they said, explained a lot of their incognita about the border line between IT Colleges, Universities, Colleges of Further Education and so on.
Michael Foley outlined the main areas of study covered in the CISCO course and showed them the computer laboratory where students learn to build computers from scratch. Two students explained about their experience in the college as well as their aspirations for future employment and our visitors were pleasantly impressed by them. Darren Donnelly was tempted to do his speech in Spanish, but perhaps he needs to attend a few more of the Spanish lessons offered in the College before he can do that. Well, maybe in next year’s visit. In fact, this seemed to be one of the reasons for the coming of this new “Spanish Armada”: To initiate a friendly link between their colleges and ours by helping students from both countries to be integrated in a specific area of work for a limited period of time.
A visit could not have been concluded without a nice cup of tea and good Irish Fruit Cake in keeping with our very traditional Irish hospitality. We felt a great sense of appreciation on their part by their very positive comments on both the premises and the quality of work we offer to our students.
We look forward to repeat visits from them opening a possible bridge of connexion between both countries and we also want to express our gratitude to them for their interaction with us.

Una visita muy interesante de la Generalitat Valenciana
La Consejeria de Enseñanza Española de la Región de Valencia nos deleitó con una visita amistosa y cálida el pasado viernes 10 de noviembre de 2006.
Mientras que el propósito de su visita aun quedaba por desembolverse, invitamos a un total de catorce profesores y directores de collegios de formación profesional en España representados por el Señor Don José María Maté Antolín, así como directivos de empresas privadas. Todos atendieron una presentación de mano de la directora del colegio, Doña Briget Blake y la asistente principal Doña Ursula Mooney, también atendidos por el tutor del curso CISCO, Michael Foley y la tutora española de horticultura, Mónica Alvarez.
Nuestros invitados estaban interesados en conocer cómo funciona el sistema educativo en Irlanda y cuáles son las opciones que se ofrecen en los distintos niveles de aprendizaje a estudiantes in Irlanda.
A pesar de que el sistema educativo en España esta aún cambiando, empezaba a ser obvio que hay grandes diferencias entre su estilo de enseñanza y el nuestro. Estudiantes de Formación Profesional deben completar un periodo de trabajo en prácticas más largo que los estudiantes irlandeses. Por otro lado, nuestros visitantes estaban impresionados del grado de ayuda guvernamental prestada a institutos y colegios, especialmente la facilidad que se ofrece a estudiantes para subsidiar el costo del curso que elijan asi como la libertad existente sobre la disponibilidad de licencias para enseñar cursos específicos.
También fue interesante para ellos aprender sobre el “Sistema de Educación en Progresión” en Irlanda con niveles del 1 al 10. Esto, dijeron, “explica gran parte de su incógnica sobre la linea de división entre colegios de Información Tecnológica, Institutos, Universidades y Colegios de Formación Profesional.
Michael Foley indicó cuáles son la áreas principales de estudio en el curso CISCO y les enseñó el laboratorio de ordenadoes en el que los estudiantes aprenden a construir ordenadores desde cero. Dos de los estudiantes de Michael hablaron de su experiencia en el colegio asi como sus aspiraciones de futuro trabajo y nuestros invitados se mostraron gratamente impresionados por ellos. .......estuvo a punto de hacer su charla en castellano, pero tal vez necesite atender unas cuantas clases más de español que se ofrecen en el colegio antes de poder hacer algo así. En fín, tal vez pueda hacerlo en la visita del año que viene. De hecho, esta parecía ser una de las razones por la llegada de esta nueva “Armada Española”: El inicio de un lazo amistoso entre sus colegios y los nuestros ayudando a estudiantes de ambos países a ser integrados en un area específico de trabajo por un periodo de tiempo limitado.
Una visita no podria ser concluida sin una taza de té rica y un buén Pastel de Frutas irlandés, para mantenerse en la tradición de la gran hospitalidad irlandesa. Nosotros notamos un gran sentimiento de apreciación por su parte por sus comentarios positivos tando de las instalaciones como de la calidad de trabajo que ofrecemos a nuestros estudiantes.
Deseamos recibir más visitas de ellos y abrir un posible puente de conexión entre ambos países y también queremos expresar nuestra gratitud por su inteacción con nosotros.
