General Course Information

The overall duration of courses will be 32 weeks of 20 hours tuition
per week, mornings only. All courses will offer full certification (Major Award) to FETAC level 5.

These courses are primarily targeting at those who are currently unemployed
and interested in upskilling to gain employment.

Eligibility

Participants must be in receipt of Jobseekers Benefit or Jobseekers Allowance for at least three consecutive months. Time spent on training or education programmes will be reckonable for this three-month period.

Business

Aim

The landscape of business has changed dramatically in recent years with the development and uptake of related technology in the area. The Internet is now the main focus for many businesses to market and promote their brands to a world-wide audience. The benefits of web analysis, online promotion and the social networking revolution are all necessary skills for successful businesses of the future.

    • Business Computing
    • Presentation Skills
    • Text Production and Word Processing
    • Business Administration
    • Communications
    • Work Experience
    • Interpersonal Skills and Career Guidance
    • Talks are organised throughout the year in specific areas of interest.


    Career Opportunities

    Graduates from this course are equipped to avail of a wide variety of employment opportunities, i.e., office administration, marketing and online retail. Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies in IT Colleges through the Higher Education Links Scheme. A CAO points scheme also exists for all FETAC courses into many Institutes of Technology and Higher Education centres.

    Childcare - Preschool Assistant

    Aim

    This course is designed to train students wishing to work with young children, including children with special needs, in a variety of contexts from preschool and crèche to school setting or day care facilities.

    • Working in Childcare
    • Child Development
    • Early Childhood Education
    • Understanding Special Needs
    • Art & Craft for Childcare

    • Talks are organised throughout the year in specific areas of interest.


    Career Opportunities

    A professional qualification in Childcare is now a pre-requisite to working in the ever-expanding childcare area. The successful candidate would be qualified to work in a privately run Creche, Preschool Setting, Voluntary Childcare Setting, Hospital or Early Start Centre.

    Healthcare in the Community

    Aim

    This course offers students an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required to undertake a caring role either in the home care or residential care setting. Working in care can be challenging and also very enjoyable. This course will equip the learner with practical skills including safe moving and handling, providing personal care to individuals with restricted mobility, maintaining a safe caring environment and minimising the risk of infection.

    The course theory focuses on acquiring the knowledge to be able to deliver holistic care to people whether in their own home or any community healthcare setting.

    • Home Care Skills
    • Health and Safety in the Work Place
    • Care of the Older Person
    • Occupational First Aid
    • Human Growth and Development

    • Talks are organised throughout the year in specific areas of interest.


    Career Opportunities

    The Department of Health & Children recommends qualification for all working in the public and private healthcare sector. In addition, the newly published National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People require all newly recruited care staff and those in posts less than one year to commence training to FETAC Level 5 or equivalent within two years of taking up employment.

    With an increasing ageing population, in addition to advances and developments in care services in Ireland, the demand for skilled and competent personnel is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
